RE: Garmin GPS

Have any of you that have done the 2009 update seen a large improvement on the maps? I also was going to download the update and could not. The Garmin website lists Canadian Tire as a dealer, they do not have it in stock but can order it at $99.00. That will be + GST & PST is it worth it?

RE: Explorer to Foxfire

The real problem was that outlook was not working after the download and I became so frustrated with MS that I started to look at FF and FB and thought I would try them. I know that a 7 year old could have done this but I am 60 years older then that. Right now I have to read my email on Hot mail and will have to rebuild all my info on the web.

RE: Explorer to Foxfire

Thanks for your help with FF I downloaded it and it looks good. My emails and the address book did not make it over. It did pickup some old web emails from 2007. Can one of you tell me how to move it over? My GW also has a mailbox at outlook that she would get to from the file menu. That link is also not there. As I told you upfront I would get in over my head.

Explorer to Foxfire

I just downloaded Explorer 7 and now the spell check no longer works. I have heard so many good things about Foxfire that I think I should change. I am not very computer literate and do not want to get in over my head. Will the bookmarks and email address book move over or will I have to rebuild everything?

RE: FlyingJ gas

My BIL drives a tank truck and when they fill they enter the code for the brand that they are hauling that day and the dispenser adds the additive for that brand.

RE: Texas Trails in Pharr TX

Alamo Palms is owned by the same family as Victoria Palms. The sights are not as large. It is a little less expensive and has a very active recreation program. It is also known to be a very friendly park. It has three Canadian TV channels on the cable system. They will also not take reservations for a certain site for less then three months but they have always had some sites at anytime in the last four years we have stayed there. http://www.alamopalms.com/ this park is also part of the same family http://www.llanogranderesort.com/

RE: BEWARE! Ontario RVers!

I asked at the licence office if I needed an inspection sticker and they told me no because it's not commercial. But I had been told by others that I did need it. I called MTO and when I finely got a call back from the person in the know the answer was. "If you never unhook your fifth wheel then it's an RV and you don't need a sticker, but as soon as you unhook it's now a truck and you do need a sticker".

RE: Day/Night Shade Repair

I got one at RV surplus in Elkhart IN. They had a lot of them there and I had to look through them to find the one I needed. I measured mine and took a tape measure and found one that matched for $20.00. In my case it was certainly worth the effort.

RE: Semi's passing

I must just be lucky. I am just back from south TX (a 2000 mile trip)without seeing a wreck. I did see a few bad trucker as well as a few bad Rvers. Most in both groups did OK in spite the big pot holes in some of the roads.

RE: Dental work??

I had a cap done for $175.00 a few years back. A friend and his wife each had five done last year at $175.00 each. All of these were at the Office of Dr. Recardo Carreon. http://www.shop-progreso.com/ I'm sure if you email them at this address they can give you prices. I know that there are some that have even lower prices but I know he came highly recommended e-mail: rgcarreon86@hotmail.com

RE: Riverbend Resort-Brownsville, Texas

We have stayed there twice with C2C. It is a nice park if you are a golfer. It is one of the nicest C2C parks we have stayed in.

RE: Border Security

Passport is best. Birth certificate plus government issued photo id is still OK. If both parents are not traveling with the kids you need a letter signed by both parents that it is OK to take them out of the country.

RE: Caravan Wagonmaster/Tailgunner Gratuity

We went on a 6 week Mexican caravan some years ago. The wagon master and his wife had done the trip many times before and were able to do much more for us then just lead the way. The tail gunner helped some with mechanical problems as well as waiting for some that fell behind. In getting to know them I found out that the company paid there basic expenses but not much over that so they had to count on the tips for anything extra. In our case they earned more then the $1.00 a day and I'm sure some gave them more then $3.00 per day and they earned it.

RE: California inspection stations

I know the question was about California but Canada has come up a number of times. We have family in Indiana that like summer sausage that we get at the farmer market in Ontario. Last August I call the US customs and was told USDA had just relaxed the rule regarding beef from Canada. I had sausage on the list of food that I gave the inspector at the boarder and it was not a problem. We brought more over in January again with no problem.

RE: travel insurance for Canadians

We also lost travel medical with RBC gold card when I turned sixty five. Then I found out the Credit Union Gold Master Card gives you up to 31 days at a time of travel medical until 70 so I switched. It is with Blue Cross Saskatchewan then we extend it with Blue Cross Ontario for the balance of the time we will be away. Ontario Blue Cross gives us credit for the 31 days from Saskatchewan and we do not have to get medical insurance every time we are out Provence for a week or two.
